"You can only treat what you can see!" This quote justifies the use of the dental microscope in root canal treatment very clearly. But is it true?
Microscopes are in many areas of science an indispensable tool. With it we can see body cells, identify bacteria and thus cure diseases. Robert Koch would certainly not had been successful without a microscope in his fight against tuberculosis.
The dental microscope magnifies "only" up to 30-times, instead of approximately 300-times with a laboratory microscope, but it is an important tool to detect structures that would remain hidden from the eye without magnification.
A simple example is shown in this video.
